George started accessing micro credit from VEDCO in 2007. His first loan taken in September 2007 amounted to Ughs250, 000/=. He invested it in growing ground nuts and bananas which proceedings were used to expand his small drug shop operating in his living room and also pay school fees for his children.
In April 2008, Mr. Naikiga accessed another loan amounting to 500,000 on completion of paying the first loan.He invested this time round in cassava, groundnuts and bananas.” I managed the loan very well together with the proceeds from the projects. With it Imanaged to build a semi permanent house for my second wife, expanded my drug shop and taking two of my children to a vocational institutions” thrilled George Nakaiga told a visitor from Iowa State University who visited his farm in 2009.
In November 2008 George’s loan amount doubled amounting to Ugsh 1,000,000/=. This was a third mega investment in ground nuts and bananas according to George. The proceedings of this loan from the two projects are what he used to construct quarters for his children and a guest wing at this home. George today realizes a monthly gross income of 330,000 . “Am no longer part of the country’s statistics of poverty especially in the ruralareas that often talked about.
