VEDCO commits to promote soybean production and consumption in the EAC . Feb/2011

VEDCO is undertaking in-depth talks with East African Basic foods to promote soy production and consumption in the East African Region. Mr. Finlary J Campbell, the General Manager with East African Basic foods held a comprehensive talk regarding this initiative In March 2011 with VEDCO staff.
On February 2011, with support from the soybean Association of Iowa States University in USA, VEDCO held a broad stakeholders meeting on soy production and consumption in Northern Uganda. The meeting generated pertinent strategies to further this move.
In the same vein, VEDCO is cementing partnerships with Mount Meru in Northern Uganda to guarantee purchase of soybean produced by farmers.
The crop is one of the magic bullets to the rampant malnutrition in the country, a supplement of silver fish which is getting depleted in the lakes in regards to animal feeds. Above it all, the crop holds potential to relieve farming communities of their poverty and food insecurity burden.
