Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns (VEDCO) in partnership with PLAN International Uganda is due to implement a four year project in Kamuli, Buyende and Luuka Districts. The project objective is to “Improve linkage between production and market demands in the Agriculture sector in Eastern Uganda”.

VEDCO is seeking to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, dynamic and highly motivated individuals for the positions:
PROJECT COORDINATOR (1) & PROJECT EXTENSION OFFICERS (3) to be part of its team in Eastern Region.

Location: Kamuli in Kamuli District

Job purpose:

  • Responsible for the leadership, Coordination and provision of technical guidance in the implementation of project activities in the region.

Key Result Areas:
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take a lead role in the coordination and implementation of project activities as scheduled with the project team.
  • Provide technical guidance in the development of project activities and identifying strategies to effectively execute project activities in line with VEDCO mandate and strategic plan.
  • Manage and coordinate human, material and finance resources of the project in line with project guidelines.
  • Build partners, staff and beneficiaries capacity about the project and VEDCO systems
  • Compile activities and financial reports and share them with VEDCO and the donor in line with donor and VEDCO specified period and project documents / requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance during programme budgeting process and ensure proper management of programme resources in line with organization mandate.
  • Conduct annual staff performance appraisals in line with VEDCO Human Resource Manual.
  • Provide guidance to the process of local partners development in accordance to VEDCO work plan.
  • Actively participate in fundraising initiatives and provide support in writing and review of proposals in line with organizational guidelines.
  • Carry out any other duty as may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

Qualifications, Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • At least a Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Agri-business or related fields such as agricultural economics or social science and other development and environmental oriented fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in managing agricultural food security livelihood interventions.
  • Good knowledge of Value chain actors and market linkages and related issues.
  • Good communication and networking skills and ability to advocate on issues.

  • Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project.

Title: Project Extension OFFICERS (3)

Job purpose:

  • The purpose of this position is to provide training & technical advisory services to producer groups on farming as a business in selected crops.

Key Result Areas:
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Group identification and profiling.
  • Develop appropriate training materials.
  • Train Producer Groups on good agronomic practices.
  • Train Producer Groups on farming as a business.
  • Establishment of demonstration gardens
  • Conduct exposure visits for farmer leaders in value addition, agronomy, post harvest handling.

  • Training farmer groups on collective production and marketing.
  • Create awareness on sustainable consumption and use of natural resources.

Qualifications & Experience.

  • A degree in any of the following disciplines:
    1. Agriculture
    2. Agri-business
    3. Social Sciences
  • Possession of a valid driving permit (Class A) is a MUST.
  • Fluency in local language (Lusoga) is a MUST.
