

On February 18, 2010, H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda visited Kalagala Sub –County Luwero District as part of his country tour on Prosperity For All (PFA). As per his usual schedule of visiting progressive farmers, the honour this time was with Kalagala Farmers Association (KAFA) an Association supported by Volunteer efforts for Development Concerns (VEDCO). KAFA is a farmers association comprising of 30 farmers groups and a total membership of 920 farmers. Situated in the neighborhood of Kalagala sub county headquarters, the association does its major investments in maize production. The association has lived the President’s popular talk of adding value to agricultural produce in order to attract better prices and remaining competitive in the mushrooming market opportunities. With support from VEDCO, the Association has established a maize mill and its completion and operations were inaugurated by the President during this visit. “oooh abegassi baluwa? Literally meaning where are the cooperating farmers? Joyous President Inquired as he approached the Maize mill.
On cutting the tape, the President also thanked the farmers with a cash support to their investment of Ugsh10, 000,000/=.He challenged the farmers to build the association to greater heights beyond the formers cooperatives because this is their own initiative. The mill has a flour production capacity of 3,000 kilograms per day. Congratulations KAFA and please carry on
